Future Jobs Fund to close down

24 March 2010

Following government announcements on reducing the deficit this week, Ministers have decided that no further bids to the Future Jobs Fund (FJF) will be approved for funding – which includes bids that are currently waiting for approval. It is estimated that these measures will save the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) £290 million.

FJF grant letters which are already in operation or have already been sent will continue as normal until March 2011. For the organisations concerned it remains “business as usual”.

The DWP is now working to develop the new single ‘Work Programme’ which will offer support for young people from the 6 month point of their claim. This will provide new opportunities for national and local partners to contribute to the government’s programme to tackle unemployment.
