Danielle Whitehurst

Danielle is a Researcher at Inclusion, having been with the organisation for 18 months, starting as an intern and progressing to Research Assistant and then Researcher. She has gained a range of experience in social research methods, conducting telephone and face-to-face interviews, facilitating focus groups, and writing reports and literature reviews. Danielle writes weekly e-briefings, summarising the week’s news stories concerning social inclusion, and she has contributed to Working Brief, Inclusion’s monthly journal.

Danielle has been involved in a number of research projects, commissioned by organisations such as Save the Children UK, the Department for Work and Pensions and the National Audit Office, during her time at Inclusion.

For Save the Children UK, Danielle recruited nine focus groups with lone parents and 12 stakeholder interviews across London and Liverpool. She also facilitated some of the focus groups. She is currently carrying out research for the Department for Work and Pensions, evaluating Lone Parent Obligations, for which she has designed topic guides to be used by interviewers. She is also managing the recruitment of respondents, interviewing lone parents and analysing the findings.

Prior to joining Inclusion, Danielle gained skills in quantitative research methods, including experience of using SPSS and Excel for data analysis, through a work placement at the National Centre for Social Research. At Inclusion, Danielle has used Atlas.ti to analyse qualitative data.
