Sustainable employment through skills

14th December 2011

Ludgate Theatre, America Square Conference Centre, London

The purpose of this one-day conference was to explore the role of skills provision and “upskilling” to help long-term unemployed people into sustained work. The government’s Work Programme was a theme, but the workshops also considered how skills can support people to get into and get on in work. Effective and innovative partnerships – driven by a clear business case – between Work Programme providers, those delivering skills training and employers will be an important part of meeting sustainability targets.

This conference brought together Work Programme and skills providers, along with employers, local authorities, colleges, third sector organisations, policy makers and other partners to share best practice and look ahead to how working together can meet the unemployment challenge.

The Association of  Employment and Learning Providers (AELP) worked in collaboration with Inclusion to deliver this event.  The conference was also supported by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES).
