Brendan Barber calls for end to injustice in the labour market

09-09-08

Brendan Barber demanded fairer workplaces and an end to all the worst injustices in the labour market in his speech to the 140th Trades Union Congress on 8 September 2008. He recommended that this be achieved by:

  • following up the agreement on agency workers by ending 'bogus self-employment and delivering equal rights for homeworkers'
  • enforcing current law more effectively, especially in sectors where workers tend to be most at risk
  • introducing a new Fair Employment Commission to combat vulnerable working and raise awareness.
