Nacro in joint bid to run prisons
04-09-09
Crime reduction charity Nacro has put in a bid to run two new prisons with private-sector company G4S. The prisons, one in Merseyside and the other in south-east London are due to be finished in 2010.
Nacro believes that its involvement in prison regimes from the outset may result in the successful rehabilitation of more prisoners. Chief executive, Paul Cavadino said: “Nacro is not proposing to start building prisons or manage prison security, but to manage resettlement services in partnership with other organisations with other areas of expertise. If we are involved in planning a prison regime from the start we can increase the likelihood that the regime will be successful in rehabilitating prisoners.”
